JOIN Chandler's Parents United
Parents United is how Chandler teachers ask parents for help with the small things that eat their prep time: copying, cutting, laminating, assembling. A teacher posts what they need. A cleared parent volunteer picks it up and does it on their own schedule, any time before the teacher's deadline. Most tasks take under an hour.
You do not need to commit to a shift, a schedule, or a whole year. You pick the tasks you want, when you want them.
Getting access
- Complete Allen ISD's volunteer background check. Register as an Allen ISD volunteer. This is the district's process, not the PTA's, and it takes time to come back. It has to be redone every school year. Allen ISD will email you when you clear.
- Read the Volunteer Handbook. Chandler Elementary Volunteer Handbook. It covers confidentiality, badges, and what to expect on campus.
- Sign the Handbook Acknowledgement. Parents United Volunteer Handbook Acknowledgement. Two minutes.
You will also need to use the same login on this site that you use for your PTA membership. If you already have one, you are set. If not, you can register here.
When we have verified your AISD background check, we will turn on your access to the the Open Requests Page and notify you.
How the task list works
Once you have been verified, you will be granted access to Open requests page while logged in. This page shows every task teachers currently need help with. Each one tells you the teacher, roughly how long it takes, and exactly what to do. Some include a short video from the teacher showing the task.
- Pick a task and sign up. You will be asked what day you plan to come in, and you can leave a note.
- The date on a task is the teacher's deadline, not an appointment. Come any time before it. Earlier is better than later.
- Sign in at the front office when you arrive and wear your volunteer badge the whole time you are on campus. Bring your ID.
- Materials are waiting for you where the teacher says in the instructions. You do not need to find the teacher first unless the task says so.
- You will get a reminder three days before the deadline, and a thank-you after.
- If something comes up, remove yourself from the task so another parent can pick it up, or email us.
New requests arrive through the year, so it is worth checking back. The list is usually short.
While you are on campus
- Student privacy comes first. What you see and hear at school stays there, including anything about a particular child.
- Please make other arrangements for preschool-age children while you are volunteering.
- Questions that the handbook does not answer go to campus administration or the PTA.
